kirigami snowflakes svg

In Japanese, the word kirigami means:
kiru = “to cut”
gami = “paper”

so kirigami is “to cut paper”. Kirigami involves not only cutting paper, but folding and cutting paper. The paper will then unfold to give various symmetrical patterns.

  5. Very interesting. I also do paper cutting, although I don’t use any folding. The type of work I do is called kiri-e (“cut artwork”), always made from one sheet unless there’s colour involved. I have a wordpress blog as well, and thought you might be interested: japanesepapercutting.wordpress.com. Cheers.
